Study Tips

Um hi, can you give me some tips on how to get my school grades up because I am failing 1 class and I have a D in the other and I need some tips. I do my work and I do extra credit and I still have failing grades and can you help me to be mature? I have older cousins and I just feel like no one gets me.

Hey Janelle! That is AWESOME that you are trying so hard in school!! I can tell you really care about your grades and doing well. You're super motivated and that is the first step. Since you are doing your work AND doing Extra Credit, I think it's time to talk to your teacher. Are you bombing your tests? Maybe you need to work on test anxiety or your test taking skills. If you haven't already done so, let your teacher know how hard you're trying. Ask for helpful tips on how you can improve. They spend alot of time with you know you very well. They prob have some great ideas for you personally to help improve your study habits. Here are some general tips for you to try....

1. Pay attention in class( I mean REALLY pay attention, that means no talking/texting friends or zoning out!

2. Take notes (or record the teacher's discussion if it's allowed.)

2. Don't be afraid to raise your hand! Ask lots of questions to ensure understanding.

3. Ask your teacher for extra 1-1 tutoring during class or maybe he/she would be willing to meet before or afterschool?

4. Ask your parent(s) if they can help you. Or can they get you an afterschool tutor?

5. Start a study group with some of your classmates. (Remember to talk Math, not boys. LOL!)

6. I don't know about you, but sometimes, after reading a chapter in my History book, I woudn't remember a thing! Study smart! Create a study guide of the main ideas and important details. Create some notecards to also help you memorize important info.

Good luck!!!
